Mr. Joe Ira Tillage, 96, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023 at Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Mr. Joe Ira Tillage was born in Rutherford County, Murfreesboro, TN on October 23, 1927. He was the sixth of nine children born to the late Preston H. Tillage and Prudie Jackson. He was educated in Rutherford County and later served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force, retiring as an E6. In addition to his parents, Mr.

Tillage was preceded in death by his 8 siblings.

During his tours in the armed forces, he would always send gifts home. He had a very distinctive laugh which was very recognizable. He loved cars, clothing, cologne, music and cooking.

Mr. Tillage is survived by his son, Andre Alexander of Murfreesboro; devoted granddaughter, Anya  (James Jr.) Bender; a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A celebration of Life will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Smyrna, TN Monday November 13, 2023.  Visitation will start at 1 PM with the Celebration of Life Service starting at 2 PM.
