Miriam "Bebe"
Allen Divine
September 4, 1941 – March 19, 2024
Miriam "Bebe" Allen Divine, age 82 died March 19, 2024, in Franklin, Tennessee. Bebe was born in Spartanburg, SC to Dr. Benjamin and Mrs. Miriam Allen. As a child she spent her summers in Myrtle Beach where she met and married the love of her life Tyler Welch Divine, Sr. She graduated from Queen's College and later received her master's degree from the University of South Carolina. Tyler and Bebe raised their family at the Dunes Club where she was an avid tennis player. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder. After the untimely death of her husband, Bebe was able to take this tragedy and create a blessing for so many in the community who were also struggling with the loss of their spouse by death or divorce. She created the area's first Christian singles group, Lives in Transition. She also loved gardening and served as a docent at Brookgreen Gardens. In 1999, she followed her youngest child Kathleen to Tennessee where she was an active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and the Green Valley Chapter of the FCE clubs. She also continued her love of gardening and volunteered at Cheekwood Gardens.
She leaves behind many who loved her dearly including her daughters Miriam "Twinks" Welch Divine and Kathleen Welch Divine; her grandchildren Cason, John Harris, and Sidney; brother Johnny Allen (Sue); cousin and best friend, Virginia "Ginsy" Mundy Davis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Open Arms Care Foundation at 101 Westpark Drive, Suite 140 Brentwood, TN 37027, Openarmscare.org, or Brookgreen Gardens at Brookgreen.org.
A witness to the resurrection service will be at the McMillan-Small Chapel in Myrtle Beach on Saturday May 11th at 1pm. The burial at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.
