They were known by their grandsons as "Podgy" and "Nina". They called RD  "Podgy" because that's what Angela called his daddy, Homer. And they called Vera "Nina" because that's what Christian named her when he was old enough to talk.

After they married, they lived in several places, but ultimately settled on a piece of property on Brockdell Mountain across from RD's father, which they bought in 1971 from RD's brother, Wes, and continued to live there until their deaths.

Over the years RD worked at several professions, including logging, heavy equipment operating, and tool & die machining; and he retained many workplace friends until his death, especially from TVA and Thomas Industries.

Vera also worked at several different professions, but most loved being a school cafeteria manager and a hair stylist. Her love and care for the students she served in the schools was a highlight of her life and she enjoyed seeing them grow up and stayed in touch with many of them.

RD's most defining traits were his gigantic heart and sense of humor, along with his love of music and how much he enjoyed socializing.  His favorite topic was always the Lord

Vera was renowned for her cooking and her love of children. She kept an immaculate home and loved to entertain in her younger years.

Their ashes will be interred at Hitchcox Cemetery on Brockdell Mountain privately by the family.
