William Donald
Gary " Don"
March 17, 1946 – June 6, 2025
William "Don" Gary, age 79, of Mt. Juliet, TN, passed away on June 6, 2025, at the Nashville V.A. Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Don lived a full and spirited life and was a man of great talent and unwavering kindness. He never met a stranger and was known for his quick wit and sense of humor with trademark sayings like, "I would have that done by now," and "I live by the river, drop in some time".
Don was a gifted athlete throughout his life. He earned numerous awards in powerlifting, baseball, softball, basketball and track — a testament to his competitive spirit and physical strength. Whether on the field, the court or gym, Don gave his all, always pushing himself and encouraging others.
His garage was a place of passion, creativity and purpose, where his mechanical talents truly shined. Over the years, Don's garage became home to many cherished cars, each one lovingly worked on by his own skilled hands, among others, include a '63 Falcon, '71 Cougar, '91 Corvette, and '66 Mustang.
Don was also a master craftsman, known for building two award-winning '71 Triumph motorcycles. A member of the original group, The Villagers, music was another passion. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar at church services as well.
Above all, Don was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, stepfather and proud grandpa. His love and respect for his grandma and grandpa Saults was undeniable, forever conveying his gratitude. Don was deeply loved and admired by many.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Saults; father, William Gary; and sister, June Erwin (Denny). Don is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary; his children, Amber and Dustin Gary; stepchildren, Michelle Giampaolo (John) and Michael Collins; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister Janlynn Johnson (late Bobby); and many extended family members and dear friends.
Don's legacy is one of strength, determination, devotion and kindness. He was a man of many gifts and forever will be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
