Celebrating the Life of Yahir Herrera Otero

Yahir Herrera Otero was born on June 30 ^th , 2004 in Nashville, TN to his loving parents, Maria Otero and Francisco Herrera and his sister, Jacqueline Herrera Otero.

Yahir was the kindest soul who had a true love for people. Music was his passion and education was his aspiring vocation. Yahir could be found at any moment blasting music or strumming along on his guitar/ukulele. He loved school and was set on becoming a high school history teacher because he was committed to having more Latino men teaching in education. He saw the importance and value of having teachers who look like their students. He was accepted into Lipscomb University, where his sister attended, and was set to start college in the fall. He was a self-proclaimed nerd and could talk for hours about his interests like comic books, anime, manga, cult classic movies, and above all else, his love for music.

He loved getting to know people and loved learning about their lives. He could bring a smile to anyone's face so easily and to hear his laugh was to hear a symphony. He is so loved and so cherished by his family, friends, and community.

Yahir passed on the 11 ^th of January after a year-and-a-half battle with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He transitioned from this life in the comforting arms of his mother and sister at Monroe Carell Children's Hospital where he received the very best medical care and was beloved by his oncology team.

Yahir Herrera Otero nació el 30 de junio del 2004 en Nashville, Tennessee a sus amados padres, Maria Otero y Francisco Herrera, y su hermana, Jacqueline Herrera Otero.

Yahir era un alma tierna que tenía un verdadero amor por la gente. La música era su pasión y la educación su vocación aspirante. Uno lo podía encontrar a cualquier momento tocando su música a todo volumen o tocando su guitarra y ukelele. Le encantaba la escuela y estaba decidido a recibirse de maestro de historia de la escuela secundaria porque el estaba comprometido a tener mas hombres latinos trabajando en educación. El vio la importancia y el valor de tener maestros que se parezcan a sus alumnos. Fue aceptado en la Universidad de Lipscomb, donde también estudio su hermana, y estaba listo para comenzar la universidad en el otoño. Yahir era un 'nerd' que le encantaba hablar por horas sobre sus intereses como los cómicos, anime y manga, películas clásicas, y más que todo, su amor por la música.

Le encantaba conocer a la gente y aprender sobre sus vidas. Él podía trae una sonrisa a la cara de cualquier persona fácilmente. Escuchar su risa era escuchar una sinfonía. El es tan amado y apreciado por su familia, amigos, y comunidad.

Yahir falleció el 11 de enero del 2023 después de una batalla de ano y medio contra la Leucemia Linfoblástica Aguda de Células B. El hizo la transición de esta vida en los reconfortantes brazos de su madre y su hermana en el Hospital de Niños de Monroe Carell donde el recibió la mejor atención medica y fue tan amado por su equipo medico de oncología.
